More focus on prevention

The group discussion about support in schools at Muirhouse Millennium Centre on Monday 26th November 2018 stressed the need to provide activities and support that prevent young people from experiencing poor mental health, such as highlighting where support is available, giving opportunities to talk to their peers about mental health, and “building resilience” amongst young people.

Why the contribution is important

It was felt that only reactive information was made available in schools when young people were at “crisis point.” The group felt it was much more important to try and avoid people suffering ill mental health, than try and support them when their condition worsens.
